Stella Soomlais's shop in Telliskivi — reed walls in front of the glass façades

A new look for our studio shop

Our shop in Telliskivi has a new look. Walls of reed have risen in front of the glass façades, installed by the craftsmen who usually thatch roofs on Estonia's islands and in coastal villages. The eye-catching solution was designed by architect Margit Aule.

The reed walls draw people in like a magnet — passers-by stop, step closer and study the surface from several angles. Then they reach out and run their hand across the prickly grain. In a modern urban setting reed feels unexpected, but a moment's thought makes clear how naturally it belongs here, softening everything around it and making the place feel friendlier.

Inside, the shop is the same as before — but wrapped in its reed coat, it feels a little cosier in here too, just as it does outside. Come on in!
